Pendant and soft furnishing

Seeing that the colours on our rug (previous post) popped out so much in the room. I've decided at the moment the following 2 ikea items best suit the room "colour scheme" (and suits out budget too! ;)

Here i edited the photo from previous post to incl. the pendant...not bad, isnt it? Perhaps it will be painted white...hmmm

Our living room - still in progress

My husband has plan to slip a "shaggy" rug under the coffee table. Since the "shaggy" is popular over here, it can be quite costly. When this design was on sale, I showed him the catalogue and he didnt like it but still we went to check it out. Turns out he likes it more than I do..hahah. Well, its still ok for the price we paid. So, that's the progress report for now.

Ps. after we just purchase this over the weekend, on Monday we received another brochure from a competitor offerring cheaper and larger rug with single colour!!! *grrr

second-hand finds

Oh, I found these pieces at Használt nyugati áruk boltja few weeks ago. Been wishing to visit the place ever since! These furniture look sad at the moment, but imagine the potentional after a lick of paint and re-upholtery!

Living room - Mission possible!

I've bookmarked webpages and clipped magazines of designs which I admire since forever. Knowing fully that most of the designs don't suit the layout of the flat and our lifestyle. That said, I'm so happy that I found something which I can "copy" while perusing "101 Living rooms", a Hungarian publication:)
The corner brown wall with round-shaped mirrors are interesting features :)
The lamp is what i'm loving for this design . Oh, the low cabinet would look good under our windows as well !

The hanging boxes are practical and should be easy to find , I hope :)

Kika promotions

I wish that we can hop by Kika to check out their latest promotional items...unfortunately, the nearest one is located in Budapest . Anyhow, what caught my attention...

I doubt this would be comfortable, but i'm liking the colour :)
Simple and functional. What i like most about this book case is
the flexibility to set-it-up according to the space available.

Living room II - Sofa and coffee table arrived

Our sofa and coffee table were finally delivered last friday! Did you notice I have this magenta colour accent going on? I think the colour goes well with the dark brown floor /table / curtain, and white furnishing / wall. Oh...we inherited the wall paper. Since we haven't any budget to re-do the wall , it will stay the same for time being . Or until i gather the courage to remove the wall paper myself ;)

As you can see the room is still kind of bare. Here is an impression of what I intend to add on in the near future...

1) An art-canvas / mirror for wall above the sofa and tv unit.
I haven't found any mirror that I like at the moment but this digital canvas from portobello art looks good!

2) Rexbo by Ikea on the right.
The sofa took up quite a lot of space. I think the rexbo would suit the room without over-crowding the space.

3) Bookcase on the left.
Either Farmer range by Baumax-x (which will be painted white) , Ikea's Hensvik or Expedit , depending on the remaining space

4) Carpet under the coffee table.
From my hubby's to-buy list. He likes to keep his feet warm at all time.

Colour your world

This layout is nearest to our flat's. I especially like the dining / entertaining corner.

Storage 1

A typical flat here usually has big shelving unit; which is understandable. For a small space, you'll need to hide-away and organise stuffs tidily. However, for me, it is a "no thanks". It's just too heavy and dominating for a medium-sized room. We do still need some shelving for books and decorative items, of course. So, I'm considering the REXBO. I've not thought much of it until I saw how workable it is from the photo below. It is light and bearly noticeable :)
see larger for clearer idea.

Wall Murals

Quirky , isn't it?
Cool! I plan to try this out , but on a canvas ;)
Considering that it's not easy finding interesting frames as drawn, this is a good solution!

Living rooms that I like

why I like it ? - so many diff. patterns yet they work!

why I like it ? - the soft furnishing enchances this simple room greatly! why I like it ? - this design was meant for a one-room studio. I didn't show all corners of the studio ; but it was very well organised! why I like it ? - simply because I love the earthy brown!
why I like it ? - it feels very cosy just to read and relax.

Desirable vs Achievable

Desirable - This design is not that hard to achieve. Too bad in reality it is not practical for our living.

Achievable - Most of our furniture already in this neutral colours. So, this look would be the way forward.

Kitchen make over ideas

We have inheritted outdated kitchen cabinets from previous owner. Moreover, the kitchen has an akward layout which I will show you in another post. Since renovation is not in our budget at the moment, when I saw this simple make-over I absolutely fell in love with it! I believe there are achievable and should give an instant lift that is much needed in that space :)

Although I adore retro inspired posters, I think such a design would not suit our kitchen. Neutral design, like black and white silhouettes is for us.

Minimalist vs Oriental

Right now, we've decided to give the living room a minimalist look. You can probably tell from the sofa and coffee table that we've selected. In the future , perhaps I could decorate an Indian inspired room , like the photo. Love that everything is shiny and lush !

Wall display shelves

I'm still going through some magazines for inspirations. I find myself really attracted to these colourful display style...

Give old drawers new life. I'll definitely give this a go if I see any suitable drawers around. Source / Idea : Praktika
I love the simplicity of this! But maybe not that practical ...

Yup, I can see this in the room...oh may be the bathroom , too ?

Wallpapering doors

We inherited some wardrobes from the previous owner. It is convenient since we didn't own any before we moved in. They will make do until we buy our own. However, the wardrobe design is out of fashion (from the 80s) . So, I am considering wallpapering a section of the door as seen in the photo. Really nice idea, isn't it ?

Living Room I

Finally, decision made! these are the two furniture that we have booked. The coffee table will be in dark choco. brown though. At least with the main furniture in , we would be able to plan the remaining of the living room better. Still have to wait for another 3 weeks for the arrival though ... me getting impatient :P

What's on the wall

At the moment, I've only painted three canveses. Here you can see them displayed on the floor.

The first frame I did was the one in the middle. The image was copy off the internet, enlarged and traced onto the canvas. The chinese character was from a stencil, so that's quite easy. While the smallest one was a scanned from a pillow, printed and painted on.

Next, I would love to print some photographes from my own archive , frame and display them in the living room. Stay tuned :)

First carpentary

My first experiment with adding legs to a flat-pack book case. Well, the chipboard was tougher than i thought, making nailing a challenge! Anyway, it turned out looking nice, sturdy and function as it should be.
Next, I need to look for primer (dont know what it’s called in Hungarian) , then it will be painted white or off -white.
